Fluorescent Magnetic Particle Testing (FMPT) is a specialized non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials. It conforms to various standards like ASME Sec V, AWS D1.1, IS Standards, and ASTM E1444.

During FMPT, fluorescent magnetic particles are applied to the test surface, and a magnetic field is induced. Any surface defects cause magnetic flux leakage, attracting the particles. A black light or ultraviolet light is then used to illuminate the particles, making the indications fluoresce and become visible to the inspector.
